The Return of the Opaque Tights
aka
Passion Killers!
Well, love them or hate them they’re back.
Just be sure of one thing……..NEVER admit to remembering them from the eighties!
They certainly are NOT flattering ‘in the flesh’!
In fact, the very sight of them is enough to send my husband running for cover but if, like myself, you were not blessed with great legs then you’ll be leaping for joy and praying they’re here to stay for at least a decade.
So how best to wear them?
- In YOUR colours (of course)! I’ve just bought chocolate brown, teal and aubergine….they are fab…...and mustard…...BIG mistake!
- If you are petite or have short legs choose the same colour/depth of colour tights as your skirt. ie Aubergine tights / aubergine skirt. This will avoid ‘cutting your legs in half’ visually. Similarly, keep shoes the same colour or darker than your tights ie dark teal tights/brown shoes.
- You may feel you can get away with a slightly shorter hemline than you would normally wear…...
- Great with ’Mary Jane’ shoes.
- Update a wrap dress or wool dress with coloured tights and shoes.
- If you have great legs ( it’s ok I still like you….!) then you can afford to wear coloured tights in contrast to your hemline ie mustard dress/purple tights. Also you could try contrasting tights with shoes ie brown tights/beige shoes.
- Peacocks have a great range of colours for less than half of those in Topshop…..also thick, soft ones to wear under a skirt with knee length boots. Dorothy Perkins also very good.
- Guys don’t like them …….undress in the bathroom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let me know how you get on!
Jane
